01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Located in Bunkyo Ward's Hakusan, Suraji is an Indian restaurant appreciated for its aromatic spices and welcoming hospitality. The curry repertoire ranges across meat, seafood, lentils, and vegetables, featuring hearty staples such as stewed mutton curry, slow-simmered chicken masala, lentil dal curry, and stewed fish curry. Heat levels can be tailored to order, accommodating mild cravings as easily as fiery preferences.

Beyond standard Indian curries, the kitchen explores playful fusion plates. A notable highlight is the Indo omelette rice, where soft, runny scrambled eggs and melted cheese cap a lightly spiced base. The broader menu also encompasses soupy curry bowls with fragrant rice, alongside Southeast Asian favourites such as gapao rice and nasi goreng.

The assortment of freshly baked breads is equally broad. Beyond classic plain naan, thin-griddled chapati, and layered paratha, the kitchen prepares molten cheese naan, sweet honey cheese naan, and a four-cheese naan made with four distinct cheeses. Midday visits come with generous lunch options, including a free single refill of naan or rice, as well as the hearty Suraji Lunch featuring two curries with tandoori chicken and seekh kebab.

For a finish, order a freshly brewed hot coffee, a cool plain lassi, or a sweet mango lassi. With counter and table seating, the space welcomes quick solo meals as well as shared lunches and dinners with friends. Takeaway bento boxes, including naan sets and daily specials, make it equally straightforward to enjoy their spiced cooking at home or the office.
